Pricing designer handbags for resale
Retail tags do not set secondary-market payouts. Neither do viral “I got $X for my bag” posts without condition context. The Private Bag Co. prices buyouts using comparable sales or listings with the basis stated when available, then a firm conditional offer after inspection — not a public price sheet and not a photo-only lock.

We do not publish fabricated comps, guaranteed payouts, or “% of retail” promises. Soft-launch commercial heart roughly $500–$5,000. Independent reseller — not affiliated with the houses named.
Preliminary range vs firm offer
| Stage | What it is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Photo preliminary range | Guidance so you can decide whether to proceed; comps basis stated when available | A binding number; full verification |
| In-hand firm conditional offer | Number after condition note + authentication steps | Instant cash from a selfie |
| Consign list price | Price you approve (and every change) | A buyout you must accept |
Target for photo ranges on business days: within about four business hours when intake is complete. Appraisal framing (not USPAP insurance appraisal): luxury handbag appraisal Nashville.
What comps are (and are not)
Comps = recent sold prices or active listings for similar model, size, material, hardware colour, and condition band.
Comps are not:
– Your original receipt
– A boutique waiting-list story
– An asking price with no sale
– A single outlier screenshot without condition notes
When we cite comps in a preliminary range, we say the basis (e.g. recent sold / active listings for that configuration) when available. Soft-launch: if we lack a clean basis, we say so rather than invent a number.
Drivers beyond comps: what affects designer bag value · materials: leather types · damage: hardware and damage.
Buyout math (honest, not a formula page)
A buyout must leave room for our verification cost, time, platform/risk costs on exit, and a margin. That is why:
- Buyout < typical strong retail-asking on the same bag (by design)
- Consign can net more if you can wait and the piece is liquid — buyout vs consignment · consignment Nashville
- Cash paths still require inspection — cash for LV · cash for Chanel · cash for Goyard
We will not publish a fake calculator or “Neverfull MM always $____” table.
Model and channel effects (qualitative)
- Liquid models (many Neverfulls, classic modern flaps, Saint Louis) move faster — condition still rules.
- Niche colours / limited runs can be higher or slower; liquidity ≠ hype.
- Online platforms may show higher asking prices with fees, returns, and time — platforms compared · trends (qualitative).
Brand geos: Sell LV Nashville · Sell Chanel Nashville · Sell Goyard Nashville · Neverfull.
Hermès / Gucci: consign-only pricing with your approval — Hermès & Gucci consignment.
How to get a useful preliminary range
- Daylight photos (front/back/sides/base/corners/hardware/interior/flaws)
- Model, size, material, year-ish if known
- Honest notes on odour, repairs, missing pieces
- Submit via What is my bag worth?
Then choose appointment, come-to-you, or insured ship-in. Corridor: Green Hills & Franklin appointments.
Completeness and accessories in the number
Dust bags, boxes, clochette-style extras, Neverfull pouches, and authenticity cards are completeness — useful, sometimes worth a modest adjustment, never proof of authenticity. Missing pouch on a Neverfull can nudge the band; it does not invent a fake. Prior platform sale screenshots help conversation only.
Photo honesty beats accessory theater. If something is damaged, show it. Hidden flaws found at appointment change the firm offer — that is the definition of conditional.
What we will not do
- Fabricate comps or invent “market averages”
- Lock a firm price from photos alone
- Call ACH/cheque “instant cash”
- Lead with Pulaski or thin city doorway pages
Auth still gates every firm offer: authentication process.
FAQ
Is the photo range my price?
No — preliminary only. Firm offer after inspection and authentication steps.
Can you price from retail?
Retail is a weak predictor. We use secondary comps and condition.
Why is a buyout lower than online asking prices?
Buyout pays you for speed and transfers risk; asking prices are not sold prices and ignore fees/time.
Do you publish a price list?
No. Soft-launch: no fabricated dollar tables.
What if comps are thin?
We say when basis is limited and may recommend consign, decline, or another channel.
Insurance appraisal?
Our evaluation is not a certified USPAP insurance appraisal — see appraisal page. —
