What consignment actually is, without the euphemisms

Consignment means you still own the bag while we sell it. We hold it, verify it, photograph it, list it, handle the buyer, and take a commission when it sells. You carry the sell risk — if it doesn’t sell, you get a bag back rather than money.

That is the whole trade: time and risk in exchange for a higher net. A buyout inverts it — we carry the risk, you get certainty, and the number is lower.

Neither is the “honest” option and neither is the trick. They suit different sellers, and the only dishonest thing is a shop that pretends one is universally better.

Who should consign

Consign if most of these are true:

You can wait roughly 45 to 90 days, and longer wouldn’t ruin your month
The expected sale price is meaningfully above about $2,000 — below that, the commission and the wait rarely justify themselves against a clean buyout
Demand for your model is strong — a modern Chanel flap, a sought-after Louis Vuitton, a scarce Goyard
The net difference is real money to you, not a rounding error
No deadline is attached to the bag

The governance — the part that should be in writing everywhere and usually isn’t

This is where consignment agreements go wrong for sellers, so here is ours in plain terms:

We propose a listing price. You approve it. Nothing goes live until you have said yes to the number.
We do not reduce a price without your written approval. Not a courtesy email after the fact — approval first. A shop that can discount your bag unilaterally is a shop that can discount your bag to whatever moves inventory this month.
Payout follows the sale clearing, by the stated method and timing in your agreement.
If it doesn’t sell, it comes back to you, with the written condition report.
You keep the written condition report either way — grade, written flaw list, a photo of each flaw, measurements, and what verification was performed.

Rates are published in the consignment agreement you sign, and the rate applicable to your bag is stated before you approve a listing. Ask for it in writing before you commit — from us and from anyone else you are comparing.

Can you lower my price to make it sell?

Not without your written approval. We can recommend a reduction and explain why the market is telling us to, but the decision is yours.

How long does a bag usually take to sell?

Plan on roughly 45 to 90 days for a desirable piece in good condition. Slower is possible; anyone who promises you a date is guessing.

What happens if it doesn't sell?
